Ms Kinova, who already has one son, did not realise she was carrying five babies until last month.

Ready to burst: Alexandra Kinova will have a Caesarean section on Sunday to deliver her five babies

However, it was not until the following month that she finally discovered she was having quintuplets.
Ms Kinova, from Milovice, about 30 km east of Prague, told Czech news site denik.cz that she was in shock when she was told.
She said: 'When we finally found a fifth head, I started to cry.'
According to local media, her children will be the country's first set of quins.
The odds of conceiving quins naturally is one is several million, according to experts.
The mother said both she and her partner have a family history of twins.

She said aside from four months of morning sickness, she has had few complications in the pregnancy.
Ms Kinova said she has been able to sleep on her side and has not had any problems with her breathing.
And she said she plans to breastfeed all five, as she did with her first-born son.
She told denik: 'The first child I nursed for almost a year and a half and I want to breastfeed now.
'While I know that some will be on artificial nutrition.'
Ms Kinova said despite the best efforts of the doctors they still do not know the sex of all the babies.

Two of the unborn babies are hidden underneath the other three - two boys and a girl, who she plans to call Daniel, Michael and Tereza.
She said: 'I very much look forward to seeing how they will look. It's a great charm, but we cannot see anything properly - only a head or legs.'
The hospital will double the number of doctors and midwives for her Cesarean.
They said they have administered drugs to help speed up the development of the babies' lungs but they cannot be sure of their condition until they are born.

Dr Alena Měchurová, head of the hospital, said they hope that all five babies and the mother will be fine but said they cannot rule out complications.

Boko Haram: Obasanjo Urges Carrot And Stick Policy Again

Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said on Tuesday that the root causes of the Islamist insurgency by Boko Haram need to be understood first before the problem can be resolved.
“We have to identify our problem,” Obasanjo said, speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Rome on a European Union project against drug trafficking.
“The first thing is to identify the remote and immediate cause of that problem,” he said, adding: “I have always prescribed stick and carrot”.
Obasanjo said there was “criminality” behind the Boko Haram insurgency — particularly involvement in drug, arms and human trafficking.
But he said there were also fundamental problems with poverty and unemployment in northern Nigeria.
“This is not an issue to be solved by a stick alone… These are issues that you cannot solve overnight,” he said at a press conference.
Violence linked to Boko Haram’s insurgency in northern and central Nigeria has led to the deaths of some 3,000 people since 2009, including killings by the security forces.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan earlier this month imposed a state of emergency in three states menaced by Boko Haram, saying the level of violence calls for “extraordinary measures”.

The 35-year-old former Real Madrid defender has agreed a 12-month deal with the newly-promoted Ligue 1 side
Ricardo Carvalho is the latest player to sign for Monaco after agreeing a one-year deal with the French club.

The 35-year-old defender, who spent three seasons at Real Madrid before his switch to Claudio Ranieri's side, completed his move to the Principality on Tuesday where he will join Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, who recently completed a €70m switch from Porto.

Carvalho told the official club website: "I'm very happy to join Monaco and to be part of the new adventure. This is a new challenge for me."

The newly-promoted Ligue 1 side backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev are also close to finalising a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who was in Monaco for a medical on Tuesday, and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is reportedly close to sealing a move.

Carvalho was in the Champions League-winning Porto side which beat Monaco 3-0 in the 2004 final.

Nigeria Has Been Stagnant for So Long, It Is Time to Change – Obasanjo

Nigeria Has Been Stagnant for So Long, It Is Time to Change – ObasanjoFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday tasked political leaders to adopt practical measures to accelerate effective utilisation of human and natural resources for sustainable development in the country.
Obasanjo gave the challenge while speaking at the maiden Jigawa Economic and Investment Summit in Dutse.
The summit was organised by the state as part of the activities to mark the 2013 Democracy Day celebration.
The major highlight of the summit was to encourage investment on agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), solid minerals and small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).
Obasanjo said that Nigeria was endowed with abundant natural and human resources, which could be transformed to the social and economic benefit of the people.
“Nigeria is a land of opportunities and it is blessed with all it takes to develop, it has been stagnant for so long, it is about time to change these opportunities to actuality.
“There is no reason why we should not do that, we must invest in education to save the larger population of the country or else our population will become a liability,” he said.
The former president said that for Nigeria to attain sustainable development, children must be trained, educated and be skilled in every sector to be self-reliant.
Obasanjo said it was necessary for the government at all levels to adopt proactive measures to translate the improvement recorded on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to the wellbeing of the people.
He explained that such improvement could be translated to provide employment opportunities, wealth creation and poverty reduction in the society.
According to him, a conducive and friendly business environment was necessary to attract investment opportunities.
Obasanjo commended the state government for its developmental stride in education, describing it as vital tool for development.
In a speech, a member of British Parliament, Lord Boateng, said it was good for the African countries to address the problem of capacity building and poor policies to attract investment.
“The challenge is to build capacity and communicate a message to move sentiment to strategy and turn dreams into reality,’’ Boateng said.
He said that for African states to attain sustainable development, they must invest in agriculture, education and infrastructure.

Thank God, pilot tells Anambra Governor Peter Obi, others after scary flight

Bad weather keeps plane in air for hours Anxiety. Relief. Smiles and thanksgiving. That was the situation yesterday at the Lagos Airport where an Arik Air flight with over 100 Lagos to Asaba passengers aboard were scared. Flight W3788, which was supposed to take off at 8:30am, was delayed in Lagos on account of bad weather. About two hours on board the plane, passengers were asked to return to the departure lounge as the plane could not leave because of what the pilot called “terribly bad weather in Asaba.” After about three hours, the passengers, including Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, boarded the plane again because weather reports showed improvement within the internationally accepted landing standards. By this time, many passengers had cancelled their reservations. On getting to Asaba, the weather became bad again. Attempts at landing were difficult. The pilot promptly returned to Lagos. On reaching Lagos, the weather was also bad –by aviation standard. The plane had to go round for hours amidst dwindling aviation fuel. The plane finally landed at 4:45 pm with signs of relief from the traumatised passengers, who clapped in jubilation. The pilot, Captain Sandy Miller, told the passengers to thank God for His mercies. Speaking to aviation correspondents at the domestic wing , Obi, who travelled to South Africa on Sunday and returned yesterday to Lagos, said he was determined to make the flight to Asaba en route to Awka because he did not like staying outside Awka more than necessary. He said he had planned so many things he would have done yesterday. Obi said he had projects to inspect such as work at Upper-Iweka, the drainage challenge at Ogidi as well as the site for the construction of Agulu Lake Hotel Resort, which, according to him, would take off in a matter of days.

9 Nigerians Arrested In Malaysia For Fraud

Police in Malaysia have arrested nine Nigerians suspected of having cheated a beautician of an estimated $427,000, Borneo Post online has reported.
According to Commercial Crime Investigation Department head Supt Mohd Firdaus Abdullah, all suspects stationed at the country’s capital were arrested last Wednesday, after two local suspects in Kuching were released on bail following an interrogation.
“We traced these foreigners through the Internet Protocol Address provided by one of the local suspects,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Eight of the foreign suspects were students and one a businessman, aged 22 to 31.
They are placed under remand until May 29 to facilitate investigation.
A team from state police headquarters was assigned to go to Kuala Lumpur to investigate.
The beautician, in her early 30s, is single. She lodged a police report after realising that she had been conned several times since early this year.
The victim said she was conned of an estimated RM1.3 million($427,000) that involved seven banks, 16 accounts and 40 transactions in more than three months.
Firdaus advised the public, especially women, not to be taken in by their online contacts to avoid being victims of cyber crime.
He hoped this case would be a lesson to those making friends online.
“We regret that this kind of case is still happening. We have given lots of advice and publicity, yet people still fall for these scams,” he said.
The swindlers used social network connection like Facebook, e-mail and chat room to establish friendship before sending parcels they claim to be presents.
They would say the parcels contained valuables and the victims had to make several payments to Customs and ‘agents’ to claim their ‘gifts’ as the parcels had been ‘confiscated’ by Customs Malaysia.

The Ogun State police command  said on Tuesday  that it has dislodged  no fewer than 53 student cultists of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, while on their way  to the venue of a nocturnal ritual ceremony in Abeokuta.
It was gathered that the state branch of the National Association of Seadogs, popularly called Pyrates’ Confraternity, hinted  the police who  laid an ambush for the suspected student cultists at about 11:30pm last Friday around Lafenwa/Rounda area of the state capital.
Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said that the police received information that some suspected student cultists were planning to hold a ceremony in a suburb of the state capital.
Adejobi, however said that suspected student cultists ran away on sighting the police patrol team deployed in the area.
“They are not a social club. The police will not allow any anti-social group or organization to operate in the state. If anybody is caught, he would be made to face the full wrawth of the law,” Adejobi said.
However, a  source told our correspondent that the suspected student cultists were however said to have left their vehicles as well as other items and fled in different directions on sighting the police patrol team deployed to apprehend them.

Ambrose, Onazi Win Scottish, Italian Cups

photo A nice classy double from Gary Hooper helped Celtic beat Hibernian 3-0 to lift the Scottish Cup for the 36th time at Hampden Park on Sunday. It was also a classy Scottish double for Nigeria’s Efe Ambrose and his club having won the league earlier on.
The success on Sunday completes the trophy run for the Nigerian who was part of the Super Eagles winning team at the 2013 Africa Nations Cup concluded in South Africa in February. The UEFA Champions League, which started on a good run for the Scottish champions, ended with a heavy defeat to Juventus but before then Ambrose had established himself as a regular with Celtic and the Eagles. He was allowed to stay back with his club on account of the cup final and he is now expected to link up with the Eagles as they prepare for the FIFA Confederations Cup and Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
On Sunday, he started from the bench and was brought on as a substitute for Scott Brown in 81st minute. For the cup final, Hooper broke the deadlock after just eight minutes with his 30th goal of the season and he doubled his side’s advantage just after the half hour with another smart finish from close range. Joe Ledley rounded off the scoring towards the end of the second half.
The loss means Hibs’ wait for a first Scottish Cup triumph since 1902 continues. It was their 11th final defeat.
Also on Sunday, Ogenyi Onazi won the Italian Cup with Lazio. Lazio won the Cup for the sixth time on Sunday beating fierce rivals AS Roma 1-0 in a day of high tension at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Senad Lulic tapped home the winning goal from close range in the 70th minute after Roma goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont tipped Antonio Candreva’s cross into his path.
The victory means Lazio will qualify for the Europa League, salvaging an otherwise disappointing season and rubbing further salt into the wounds of their old foes, who miss out on European football despite finishing sixth one place clear of the Biancocelesti.
“I am really happy for the players who worked so hard this year and deserved the victory. It’s not easy to win a game like this. We now have Europe ahead of us,” Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic told RAI Sport.
The defeat for Roma makes their manager Andrea Andreazzoli’s position at the club precarious with speculation in the lead up to the match suggesting AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri could be a favourite to take his place.

Leprosy Outbreak In Gombe State

A resurgence of leprosy has been reported in Gombe state. According to the Programme Officer, Gombe State Office of the Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Programme, new 5 cases were reported within the first quarter of 2013.

photoHe said the reported cases were in children.

He said the affected areas are in  Dukku, Yamaltu-Deba and Shongom Local Government Areas.

According to him, the discovery suggests a reverse in the graduation reduction in leprosy prevalence steadily recorded in years before.

“The cases in the state seem to be dropping. In 2011, there were 120 cases, in 2012 it dropped to less than 100 and now the reverse is the case and is manifesting among children,” he said.

He blamed the infection's re-emergence on poor interest of stakeholders in the health sector as responsible for outbreak seen in children.

“Leprosy does not seem to be a public health issue; governments at all levels should take it seriously because of its devastating effect. Measures had been taken to track down the source of the new infections and stop further transmission. There is every possibility that somebody within the communities where the children live has the micro organism and is transmitting it,” he said.

He said early detection is central to good outcomes.

The former Chelsea interim boss signed a two-year deal and will replace Walter Mazzarri, who has moved to Inter Milan.
photoBenitez led the Blues to third place in the Premier League and won the Europa League after he was appointed manager in November, following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo.
Despite his success, the Spaniard struggled to win over a section of the Chelsea supporters during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Benitez is hopeful of a better relationship with the Napoli fans and is confident of bringing further success to a side who were second last season - their best finish in Serie A since winning the Scudetto in 1990.
"Now that the agreement is confirmed, I can say I am very happy and very satisfied for having committed to a great club with an illustrious heritage like Napoli," he said. "I understand the history of the city and how the club forms a fundamental part of the culture and traditions of Naples.

Boko Haram Claims Victories Over Military, Seeks Help From Afghanistan

The leader of Nigeria's Boko Haram Islamists said his group has scored several victories against the military during an ongoing offensive while themselves sustaining little damage, in a video seen by AFP on Tuesday.
photo
"Since we started this ongoing war which they call state of emergency ... in some instances soldiers who faced us turned and ran," Abubakar Shekau said in the hour-long video.
He claimed Nigerian forces "threw down their arms in flight."
He called on like-minded Islamists in countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to join the fight to create an Islamic state in Nigeria.
"We call to us our brethren in these countries I mentioned. Oh! Our brethren, come to us," he said in the video, which alternates between Arabic and the Hausa language spoken across northern Nigeria.
Nigeria launched an offensive against Boko Haram on May 15, after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the country's northeast, the Islamist insurgents' stronghold.
The video was delivered to AFP through an intermediary in a manner similar to previous Boko Haram messages. The images of Shekau in the vieo are consistent with those previously released.
The Boko Haram leader was designated a global terrorist by the United states last year.

Woman Burns Son’s Face and Stabs Him in the Head For Stealing Soup [Pics]

A 25 year old petty trader has been arrested by police in Ibeju Lekki for allegedly burning her 6 year old son's face for going into their neighbour's home and licking their soup.

Not only did Sakirat Attah burn her son's face with hot iron after the neighbour reported her son to her, she also used a broken bottle to stab young Daniel in the head. You can see the photo above. How you can do this to your own child is beyond me.

Sakirat took her son into their one room apartment after finding out what he did, locked the door, lit a stove, put an iron spoon on it to get hot and used it to burn his face and hands as punishment. And when that wasn't enough, she broke a bottle and stabbed him in the head, leaving a deep cut. Daniel later told police he stole the soup because he was hungry.

Neighbours who heard the little boy screaming for help entered the room and rescued him from the mother. They rushed him to the hospital and called the police on the mum.

Shakirat Attah has been charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a one count charge of assaulting a minor occasioning bodily harm. She's currently in Kirikiri Prison, pending when she fulfills her bail conditions. I hope they take this child away from her.

Baby Rescued Alive From A Toilet Pipe After Being Flushed By Parents [Pics]

Firefighters in eastern China have rescued an abandoned newborn baby boy lodged in a sewage pipe. The infant was stuck in a pipe directly beneath a toilet commode, state television reported, in a case which has sparked anger on social media sites.

There are frequent reports in Chinese media of babies being abandoned, often shortly after birth.

The problem is attributed variously to young mothers unaware they were pregnant, the birth of an unwanted girl in a society which puts greater value on boys or China’s strict family planning rules.

In the latest case the infant was found in the sewage pipe in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang on Saturday afternoon.

The harrowing discovery came after residents reported the sound of a baby crying, state television said late on Monday.

The pipe was just four inches wide in diameter the China Daily newspaper said.

Firefighters had to remove the pipe and take it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around it to rescue the baby boy inside, the report said.

His arms had been pinned to his side, and when the confines of the pipe had been delicately prised away, he let out a long wail – much to the relief of doctors who were battling against the clock to rescue him.

His eyes, face and body were covered in the filth of the pipe. The child is in a stable condition and the police are looking for his parents, state television added.

The Associated Press said the child had been named Baby No 59 from the number of his incubator, the Guardian reported.

A number of visitors have donated nappies, baby clothes and powdered milk to the hospital to help the little boy, the news agency added.

The case has been widely discussed on China’s Twitter-like service Sina Weibo due to the graphic nature of the footage, with calls for the parents to be severely punished.

New Delhi, India — When night falls in this gritty capital, gangs troll the darkened streets looking for easy prey among a portion of the city’s vast homeless population; thousands have been rounded up and carried off in trucks in recent years.Cows Are Losing Their Sacred Status In India
The police say they have increased patrols and set up roadblocks in an effort to stop the trafficking. In some cases, officers have infiltrated gangs in hopes of catching them in the act. But the brutal kidnappings continue, and the victims — scrawny cows, which are slowly losing their sacred status among some in India — are slaughtered and sold for meat and leather.
Cattle rustling, called “lifting” here, is a growing scourge in New Delhi, as increasingly affluent Indians develop a taste for meat, even the flesh of cows, which are considered sacred in Hinduism. Criminals round up some of the roughly 40,000 cattle that wander the streets of this megacity and sell them to illegal slaughterhouses located in villages not far away.
Many of the cattle in Delhi are part of dairy operations and their owners have neither the land nor the money to keep them penned. So the animals graze on grassy medians or ubiquitous piles of trash. Others too old to be milked are often abandoned and left to wander the streets until they die — or get picked up by the rustlers.
Posses of police officers give chase to the outlaws, but the desperados — driving souped-up dump trucks — think little of ramming police cars and breaking through barricades. They have even pushed cows into the pathways of their pursuers, forcing horrified officers to swerve out of the way to avoid what for many is still a grievous sin.
“These gangs mostly go after stray cattle, but they will also steal motorcycles and scooters,” one police officer, Bhisham Singh, said in an interview. “They kidnapped a woman recently and gang-raped her.”
Behind the cattle rustling is a profound shift in Indian society. Meat consumption — chicken, primarily — is becoming acceptable even among Hindus. India is now the world’s largest dairy producer, its largest cattle producer and its largest beef exporter, having surpassed Brazil last year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
Much of that exported beef is from buffalo (India has half of the world’s buffalo population), which are not considered holy. But officials in Andhra Pradesh recently estimated that there are 3,100 illegal slaughterhouses in the state compared with just six licensed ones, and a recent newspaper investigation found that tens of thousands of cattle are sold annually for slaughter from a market in just one of that state’s 64 districts. Killing cows is illegal in much of India, and some states outlaw the possession of cow meat.
Cows Are Losing Their Sacred Status In India
Much of the illicit beef is probably sold as buffalo, an easy way to hide a sacrilegious act. But sometimes it makes its way to meat sellers in Delhi whose cellphone numbers are passed around in whispers. Steaks can be ordered from these illicit vendors in transactions that are carried out like drug deals.
Beef from cattle is also widely consumed by Muslims and Dalits, among India’s most marginalized citizens. Indeed, meat consumption is growing the most among the poor, government statistics show, with overall meat eating growing 14 percent from 2010 to 2012.
Anuj Agrawal, 28, said he grew up in a strictly vegetarian Hindu household but tried chicken for the first time in his teens when he was at a restaurant with friends. He now eats every kind of meat, including beef steaks and burgers. “Once you taste meat, you’re not going back to just fruits and vegetables,” Mr. Agrawal said.
He says many of his friends have made similar transitions. But he never eats meat with his grandparents: “I would be excommunicated if I did, so I go pure ‘veg’ when I’m with them. I want to inherit something.”
To some extent, the growing acceptance of beef is a result of the government’s intense focus on increasing milk production, which has led to a proliferation of foreign cattle breeds that do not elicit the same reverence as indigenous ones, said Clementien Pauws, president of Karuna Society for Animals and Nature, an animal welfare agency in Andhra Pradesh.
“Cows are all about business and money now, not religion,” Ms. Pauws said. “They’re all taken to slaughterhouses. It’s terrible.” This is not to say that eating beef from cattle is widely accepted. The vast majority of Hindus still revere cows, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, one of the country’s two major political parties, has demanded that laws against cow slaughter be strengthened.
Some landlords even refuse to rent to those who confess to a taste for meat. But the demand for beef keeps rising, many here say, and with it the prevalence of cattle rustling. Last year, the police in Delhi arrested 150 rustlers, a record number. This year, arrests have continued to surge, Mr. Singh said.
Typically, the rustlers creep into the city at night. When the criminals spot stray cattle and few onlookers they stop the truck, push out a ramp and use a rope to lead the cow to its doom. The thieves can usually fit about 10 cows on a truck, and each fetches 5,000 rupees — about $94. In a country where more than 800 million people live on less than $2 a day, a single night’s haul of more than $900 represents serious temptation.
One man who has helped the police in neighboring Uttar Pradesh said the rustlers were often able to bribe their way to freedom. “Even if they’re sent to jail, they come out in 10 to 15 days and commit the same crimes again,” said the man, who did not want his name used for fear of reprisals.
The unfortunate fate of some of Delhi’s cattle has led some Hindus to establish cattle shelters on the fringes of the metropolitan region. One of the largest is Shri Mataji Gaushala, where thousands of cattle live on about 42 acres.
Sometimes, the rescue comes too late. Brijinder Sharma, the shelter manager, whose office walls are decorated with drawings of Lord Krishna hugging a calf, showed a video of a truck packed with cattle that was seized on its way to an illegal slaughterhouse. Many of the cows had already died of heat exhaustion.
“The social and religious status of cows has been under attack in India,” Mr. Sharma said. He hopes that his shelter, which has an annual budget of $5.4 million, underwritten almost entirely by wealthy Indians who have emigrated to the United States, will help reverse that trend.
The afternoon feeding at the shelter attracted a crowd of happy onlookers. Abhishek, a one-named cowhand, called out among the lowing throng: “Sakhi! Sakhi!” A large cow with huge horns rushed to the front of the herd, and Mr. Abhishek kissed her on the nose.
The cow responded by licking one entire side of his face, and Mr. Abhishek beamed.

OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY, UNIOSUN GIVES AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT TO 1ST CLASS GRADUATES

This is a good development coming from the Osun State University, UNIOSUN. The University recently approved the appointment of their first set of 1st Class graduates as Graduate Assistants (Lecturers).

The Management of Osun State University has approved the appointment of its first set of first-class graduates. They are eight in number and they have been given employment as Graduate Assistants into the various Colleges of the institution.

These scholars include:

BUS PREACHER BEATEN TO COMA IN LAGOS AFTER CONDOMS FELL OUT FROM HIS BIBLE

A bus preacher was almost lynched on Saturday morning at Toyota Bus stop, in front of the popular Ladipo Spare parts market, when some condoms allegedly fell out of his bible as he preached the ‘Word of God’.

DailyPost gathered that the self acclaimed Man of God was dragged out of the commercial bus and beaten into a pulp before he was rescued by some policemen.

According to information made available to DailyPost, the Pastor had embarked on his journey from Apapa and proceeded to preach to the people on the bus, using very strong words like “If you wear trouser you’ll go to hell! The Devil invented Make up! Weave-on is from Marine Kingdom! If you have pre-marital sex you will burn in hell and your skin will peel!”

It was learnt that the people in the bus were so moved and some started falling under the anointing.

According to an eye witness, Mr. John Mbakogu, who was on his way to his shop at Ladipo, “People were just falling as he was laying hands. One man almost fell out of the bus under the influence of the Spirit. It was amazing until he raised his hands to cast the demons out of one girl, and 2 Durex condoms fell out”

“The angry men in the bus who had been having pangs of guilt due to the pastor’s preaching about sex suddenly got really angry and pounced on him, who all of a sudden started shouting, I also preach safe sex! Safe sex is good!”

However, Policemen had to be called to the scene to save the pastors life. So far 2 arrests have been made, and the Condoms have been kept as evidence.
