IMSU EXPELS 60 STUDENTS OVER POOR GRADES

The management of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri has expelled about 60 students of the institution including those in final year for making below 1.00 grade points.

Those who made above 1.00 but below 1.5 grade points for the 2011/ 2012 session were asked to repeat.

The acting Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Professor Ukachukwu Aloysius Awuzie said the Senate of the Institution initiated the measure in order to encourage seriousness.

Professor Awuzie explained that they want to be sure that Imo State University Owerri regained its position as one of the best universities in the country.

He said the society will not be better if schools continue to graduate students who cannot defend their certificates.

Some students commended the authority for the new policy and stressed that the leadership of Professor Awuzie and students of Imo State University must work hard to learn and merit their certificates.

The students argued that the notice came too late as the institution had started exams.

They maintained that the school’s management should rescind the decision and allow everybody to continue; stating that it was at the detriment of any student who graduates with poor result.

Lampard backs Terry to stay at Chelsea

The Blues' midfielder believes the skipper will remain at the club, despite the defender's fitness having come into question following limited appearances under Rafa Benitez

Frank Lampard has backed John Terry to remain at Chelsea for the foreseeable future, despite the player's fitness being questioned ahead of entering the final year of his contract.

Lampard himself only recently signed a one-year contract extension to remain at Stamford Bridge, where he helped the team win a Champions League, four FA Cups and three Premier League titles.

Lampard told The Sun: "I know JT will want to stay, he's said he'd love to stay at Chelsea. He feels the same as me.

"Why play anywhere else when you love the club you're at? JT's the captain of the club and does a brilliant job. At the start of next season, I think that's when the club will take a view on it. I know what my view would be.''

The 35-year-old also laughed off reports which suggest that the players have influence over the firing of managers.

"One thing that has helped us remain successful over such a long period is a strong core, strong spine,'' he said. "I mean that in terms of players - their ability, personality and the leaders.

"You need people like that in the dressing room. But the idea of the dressing room being too strong? Certainly not.

"I've never heard of any players here being able to ask our owner to sack a manager or even discuss anything to do with the structure of the club. If you wanted to take that chance you would probably get sacked yourself.''

US drones spy on Boko Haram

Boko Haram members | credits: File copy Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram insurgents in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states may have been bolstered by United States drones stationed in Niamey, Niger Republic.  The Nigerian government had deployed thousands of troops to the three states after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in their territories on May 14, 2013.  A top intelligence official, who declined to be named due to the sensitive nature of the issue, told Saturday PUNCH that US drones had been spying on Boko Haram bases in the forests and plains around Nigeria’s borders with Niger, Chad and Cameroon.  The source said this was part of assistance provided by the US Government, in its bid to destroy terror bases in West and North Africa.  The security official did not, however, give further details of the spying mission as well as other aspects of US military assistance to the campaign against Boko Haram.  “Yes, it is true. We have got assistance from the United States, including what you mentioned,” he stated.  US President Barack Obama had in February announced that 100 American troops were being sent to the drone base in the Nigerien capital.  The drones had been deployed in missions against Islamist extremists in Mali but may their area of coverage may have now been extended to cover Niger’s border with Nigeria.  Nigerien President Issoufou Mahamadou had told the Associated Press in January that his government invited Washington to send surveillance drones because he was worried that the country might not be able to defend its borders from Islamist fighters based in Mali, Libya or Nigeria.  “We welcome the drones,” Mahamadou said in an interview at the presidential palace in Niamey. Citing the “feeble capability” of many west African militaries, he said Niger and its neighbours desperately needed foreign help to track the movements of guerrillas across the Sahara and Sahel, an arid territorial belt that covers much of the region.  “Our countries are like the blind leading the blind,” he said. “We rely on countries like France and the United States. We need co-operation to ensure our security.”  The Predator drones in Niger are unarmed, US officials said, though they have not ruled out equipping the aircraft with Hellfire missiles in the future.  The US Embassy in Niamey, Niger Republic did not respond to an email on the matter.  When contacted, spokesman for Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, Brig-Gen. Chris Olukolade, denied any collaboration with the US in the campaign.  He said, “This is solely a Nigerian planned operation and we are doing it our own way. This operation is our own and we are doing it in line with best practices. It is Nigerian designed and executed.”  Meanwhile, Nigerian security agents may join the ongoing investigation of two British men, who hacked a soldier to death on Wednesday in Woolwich, United Kingdom.  The two British-born suspects of Nigerian origin, Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, are under guard in hospitals after being shot and arrested by police after the murder of 25-year-old Afghan war veteran Lee Rigby on Wednesday in Woolwich in broad daylight. They have not yet been charged.  UK detectives are trying to determine whether the suspects had links to militants in Britain or overseas.  Sources familiar with the investigation have said no sign has emerged so far of direct links between the attack and the Boko Haram insurgency.  British investigators are looking at information that at least one of the suspects may have had an interest in joining Somalia-based Islamist rebel group al Shabaab, which is allied to al Qaeda and Boko Haram, a source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.  A senior State Security Service official told one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity on Thursday that although a request had yet to be received from UK authorities, security agents would be ready to aid the investigation of the alleged killer’s possible links to Boko Haram and other terror groups.  He said it was still early for such a request to be sent to Nigeria but noted that the agency was following developments on the matter closely.  Attempts to obtain comments from the SSS spokesperson, Ms. Marilyn Ogar, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls to her phone.  Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, asid, “We will not discuss that. Talk to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”  Spokesman for the British High Commission, Robert Fitzpatrick, declined to comment on the matter. He said since British Prime Minister, David Cameron, had issued a statement, there was nothing more to add.  Also speaking, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Ogbole Ahmedu-Ode, said, “Those two are of British nationals but of Nigerian ancestry. I am not aware of any request from the British Government on their roots in Nigeria.”

I WILL APPRECIATE BOKO AS A FRIEND SAID- GOODLUCK JONATHAN

President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will “appreciate to have Boko Haram as my good friends.”

President Jonathan said this on Tuesday, when he delivered his address at the foundation-laying ceremony of Para-military Villages Housing Scheme Development project at Kyami District, along Airport Road, Abuja.

The president’s statement elicited hysterical laughter from the audience on the occasion, as it exudes the confidence of someone winning the war against the sect.

He particularly commended the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, for the initiative, saying the housing scheme would further provide a secure environment for the para-military personnel and their families.

“When you talk of para-military services, some people don’t even know that is the constituency I belong. I started work with government after my school certificate as a Preventive Officer with the then Department of Custom and Exercise. They were called Custom police then. That is where I started my career. So I’m one of them.”

Jonathan added, “that is why I’m quite pleased to participate in today’s event of foundation laying ceremony of the paramilitary village housing scheme being undertaken jointly by the Ministry of Interior and Byuan Resources Ltd.”

While also commending Comrade Moro for taking steps to actualise the first phase of the project, Jonathan said the initiative was a direct furtherance of the Federal Government’s determination to maximise the potential of the public private partnership in improving the well-being of Nigerians and addressing major national challenges.

He noted that shelter was recognised globally as one of the primary needs of every human being, adding that the provision of quality, accessible and affordable housing “is a core priority of this administration.”

Jonathan said both the national and urban housing policies were specifically developed and implemented to accomplish this important objective.

He stressed that his administration had identified clearly that the private sector remained key to the success of the development agenda of the administration and would encourage partnership with private investors.

President Jonathan also disclosed on the occasion the determination of the Federal Government to recapitalise the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and strengthen the Federal Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, Federal Housing Authority and all other institutions of the government in the building sector.

He added that considering the centrality of their roles towards actualisation of the overall objectives of the government, “these institutions will sustain with greater vigour the implementation of existing policies on housing and urban renewal.”

He said the Federal Government was more determined to bridge the existing gap between the housing needs and the availability.

According to him, “there is no doubt that on completion, this project will boost the morale, productivity, security and welfare of the beneficiaries.”

Minister of Interior, Comrade Moro, in his remark, disclosed that Messrs Byuan Resources Ltd had already acquired parcels of land in 24 state capitals of the federation, including FCT, for the execution of the housing project.

I Supported Abacha Then But Now If Anyone Is Against Jonathan I Will Fight Him Bullet For Bullet - Asari Dokubo

Founder of the Niger-Delta People Volunteer Front, NPDVF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has declared that he was ready, bullet for bullet, for those who want to stop President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015
He stated this in Warri, weekend, just as the founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun , said nobody can stop President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting for a second term in 2015, assuring the South-West geo-political zone would support him.
Both men spoke at a memorial public event in Warri, Delta state, for the late Ijaw hero, Major Isaac Jasper Adaka-Boro. According to Dokubo-Asari, “We have to demand what belongs to us, 2015 is not about Jonathan, but about our destiny, if you allow them, they will crush you when they come. I am ready for them bullet for bullet.”
He said the battle line for self- determination has been drawn, as the people of the region would no longer accept being second- class to the people of the North. His words, “The battle line is drawn, if our representatives in Abuja are trading off our destinies we will not accept it. The enemies are at the doorstep waiting to pounce, having NDDC, ministerial and ambassadorial positions are not enough, we want to control our resources.
“When the enemies come with their gun to shoot you down, I will also hold a gun to fight back, the day will come, they will come for you, there is no sitting on the fence. When they come, they won’t differentiate between Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, Anioma, Edo, and other ethnic nations,” he asserted
Dokubo-Asari said he was not afraid or ashamed to support Jonathan who is from the Niger Delta, stressing that he supported Abacha government, so why not Jonathan who is a fellow Ijaw man.
“The oil belongs to us in the Niger Delta, don’t be ashamed to stand up for your right, I supported Abacha, so why won’t I support Jonathan, the North have that mentality of born to rule but we are saying no it has changed.”
He warned those sending threatening bulk sms to him that, “They use bulk sms to send me message that I will die but they don’t know that I am ‘Edi-abali’ (he who kills in the night). We celebrate Boro because he doesn’t believe that dialogue will give you freedom but freedom comes through the barrel of the gun.”
Dokubo-Asari took a swipe at the amnesty programme, saying, “There are those who went to the creek for other businesses, amnesty is a stigma, an enemy will never give you what is good, I challenged it by going to the court. You will be walking on the street and they brand you a criminal because amnesty is for criminals, we are freedom fighters, and so, we can’t be part of amnesty.”
He declared, “We have to demand what belongs to us, 2015 is not about Jonathan, but about our destiny, if you allow them they will crush you when they come. I am ready for them bullet for bullet.”
“Every rich man that is from this region is a threat to them, which is why they use their man to crumble many of the banks owned by the southern people. Jonathan has given Nomadic and Almajiri education to the North, which is amnesty for them, a lot of things are being taken for granted before now but we won’t take it,” he said. Fasehun, OPC leader decried the call for the arrest of Niger-Delta activist, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, over his comments on Jonathan’s re-election, saying those calling for his arrest were misguided. His words, “Since the constitution guarantees Goodluck Jonathan two terms, which Jupiter can deny him the privilege?”
“Those who condemn Dokubo for his statement, where were they when the likes of Atiku Abubakar, Adamu Ciroma and Muhammadu Buhari swore to make Nigeria ungovernable should Jonathan win the presidential election in 2011?
“Why are these commentators not pointing fingers correctly, now that the foot-soldiers of these evil and belligerent politicians have captured governance and turned public worship into suicide mission? He said. He further queried, “Where are these armchair critics now that the whole North is burning with bomb blasts and shootings and the corpses of young Southerners and Christians are being shipped back home for burial?
He added. “It is in this spirit that we fully throw our weight behind the State of Emergency that President Jonathan has declared in the three states. It was long overdue. Our only quarrel is with the retaining of the Governors and Legislators in their positions.”
“However, the emergency rule leaves no one in doubt that Jonathan is not only the President but also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Robin Van Persie Is Ready For Challenge

Robin van Persie is looking forward to a new challenge under David Moyes and is confident Manchester United will still be challenging for trophies next season.

The Dutch striker joined United last summer from Arsenal and ended the campaign with his first Premier League winners' medal, and the division's top scorer.
Next term sees Moyes replace Sir Alex Ferguson in the United hot-seat and Van Persie does not expect the change in manager to derail the club.
"This is a great bunch of players," said Van Persie. "Everybody wants to work for each other and share the success.
"I'm 100 per cent sure we will play for trophies every year and, hopefully, win a few every year. That's our standard for this team.
"Of course, we get a new manager next year and everybody is looking forward to that. It's a new challenge for everyone. We'll have a nice break now and go again."
Van Persie is also not planning to rest on his laurels after winning his first title, adding to MUTV: "I am not thinking I have my medal and this is it.
"It tastes beautiful. But I know how it feels now and I want more. That is the idea of all the lads. It is a great feeling to achieve it. We can enjoy it.
"It only gives you the taste for more. Hopefully next season we can win the double.
"I do think it is important for a player to win medals. You play football to win. If you add up all those wins it has to end up in a big trophy."
The 29-year-old also expressed his gratitude to his team-mates for helping him to finish as the Premier League's top scorer for the second year in a row.
"The Premier League means everything and the Golden Boot is like a little bit extra, but I think they should make 25 of them because we do it together," he continued.
"It picks out one player, who scores 26 goals or whatever, but those goals are made by us as a team. I would like to share that trophy."

TB Joshua, Pastor Chris Accused of "Occultism"

Ghanaian Bishop Isaac Owusu Bempah, Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has labeled two of Nigeria's celebrated pastors as partners in winning souls for the devil.
TB Joshua, Pastor Chris Accused of "Occultism"
multilifa

In the words of the controversial Owusu Bempah, the founding President of Believers' LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as "Christ Embassy", Dr Christian Oyakhilome (popularly known as "Pastor Chris") and General Overseer of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Balogun (aka TB) Joshua, are not "true men of God", but leaders of occults, winning souls for the devil.
This claim, according to Owusu-Bempah, is based on God's revelation to him in a vision as well as his own analysis of the scripture, works and conduct of the two popular heads of two religious organisations in Africa.
Owusu-Bempah said he once heard Pastor Chris saying he saw nothing wrong with homosexuality and lesbianism, and wondered which true man of God would lead his flock with such beliefs.
"No doubt he [Pastor Chris] is a friend and partner of TB Joshua", Owusu-Bempa noted last week, claiming both men are dubious men of God who have a pact with the devil.
For Owusu Bempah, Nigerians have allegedly realized the dubious character of the Nigerian televangelist faith healer and founding president of Christ Embassy and his partnership with TB Joshua and have consequently chased him out of the country to South Africa, where he presently resides.
On TB Joshua, Owusu-Bempa claimed he once saw him with his feet on the floor preaching, an incident he said revealed to him that TB Joshua was not from God.
"When you see anyone claiming to worship God who worships with his feet on the ground, he's an occultist. And TB Joshua is an occultist.
"Ask yourself how TB Joshua, who claims God called him, worships with his feet on the ground? Let me tell you if you go to any church and you see the leader worshiping with his feet on the ground, it's a sign of demonism; it's occultic. People like that follow spirits that are not of God. It is occultic."
According to him, God later revealed that TB Joshua was an occultist who did not draw his spiritual powers from God.
"Some time ago, I used to like TB Joshua. I was watching him on television, and the Lord opened my eyes. I saw him with horns on his head, and he had the face of a wolf. His tongue was that of a snake and he had blood smeared all over his mouth."
"Immediately, I rushed into my bedroom, and the Lord told me that he wasn't from Him, but was working under the authority of bad spirits," the pastor added. "That was when I realized TB Joshua was demonic and not of God."
The man who has himself been labeled a false prophet by some of his critics, advised Ghanaians not to be misled by signs of wonders and so-called men of God whose powers do not come from God.
He also accused TB Joshua in particular of sometimes faking miracles to win the confidence of his flock. "He can perform a clean miracle today and contaminate it with a lot of fake ones".
Joshua claimed his "own junior pastor went to his church to be healed. He was forced to sit in a wheel chair and made to claim before the cameras that he had received his healing even though he hadn't. He returned to the country and within two weeks, he passed away", Owusu-Bempah stated.
He again cautioned Ghanaians not to be in a hurry to attend the services of Prophet TB Joshua since he is the "anti-christ."
"If you are a pastor who worked under him and he gets to know you want to reveal his secrets, he kills you directly," Owusu-Bempah alleged.
"If no one is willing to say this, I will say it: TB Joshua is the anti-christ and an agent of the devil... I know of a pastor who attended his church, and when he should tell you about what he saw, your mouth would drop," he stated.

Breaking News: Mourinho To Leave Real Madrid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez announced Monday that coach Jose Mourinho will leave at the end of the season after three years at the Spanish club.

"We've decided to bring our relationship to an end at the end of the current season," Perez said. "The club and manager agree the timing is right to bring our relationship to an end. On behalf of the board of directors I would like to thank Jose Mourinho for all his hard work. The team have improved in his three years, and we wish him all the best. It was the right moment."
Perez said no decision about his replacement has been made. Spanish media has reported that Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti is a candidate.
The 50-year-old Portuguese coach is leaving having won just a single Spanish league title -- sandwiched between four Barcelona successes, including one this season -- and two domestic cups. He has two remaining matches of a season that will end at the start of next month without Madrid winning a trophy.
"We have been thinking about this for a while," Perez said. "We have not established any pre-contract with no potential coach, and that is what we will be doing in the following days."
Perez reiterated that "nobody has fired anyone" and that the separation of coach and club was mutual.
"After three years we both agreed this was the correct moment to finish," Perez said. "With Mourinho, we made a big leap competitively and sporting-wise. Today Madrid is where it ought to be.
"We had not reached that level prior to his arrival, so the balance of his stay here was positive."
The agreement indicates that the colorful and outspoken coach can return to Chelsea after a six-year absence without any compensation.
Rafael Benitez's interim stint in charge of Chelsea will end after a postseason tour of the United States, having secured qualification for the Champions League and won the Europa League last week.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard can't wait for Mourinho to return.
"He galvanizes people," Lampard told Talk Sport radio on Monday. "His own self-confidence reflects back on his teams. ... What he does is he gets the best out of players and gets this togetherness that I'd never known until he came to the club, and I haven't seen it again since then."
Popular with fans and media alike in England -- in stark contrasted to his fraught relationships in Spain -- Mourinho appears to have repaired his relationship with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to return to Stamford Bridge.
"He might rub people up the wrong way but, as a manager, he's brilliant with his team. Tactically, he's brilliant with individuals, and I think he's brilliant with the press," Lampard said. "I know it creates a storm, but he does protect his players."
As for Mourinho's replacement at Real, Ancelotti said Monday he has sought his PSG release.
"I've asked to leave, and I am waiting for their answer," said the 53-year-old Paris Saint-Germain head coach.
Nasser al-Khelaifi, president for the Ligue 1 champions, denied the reports.
"He [Ancelotti] asked to depart for Real Madrid. It is not possible because he has a contract for one year more, so that is our decision," he said.

Islamist Rebels Executing 11 Syrian Soldiers 18 May, 2013

A video published on Thursday showed fighters of the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in Syria executing 11 men they accused of taking part in massacres by President Bashar al-Assad's forces.VIDEO: Islamist Rebels Executing 11 Syrian Soldiers

The film is believed to be from eastern Deir al-Zor province and dates from some time in 2012, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition monitoring group.
The Observatory's head, Rami Abdelrahman, said the Nusra Front has recently been releasing several videos of their past operations. He said the man seen executing the prisoners in the video - a Nusra commander - had been killed in March 2013 in battles with local tribes in the province.
The footage shows the commander, his face covered in a black balaclava, shooting each prisoner in the back of the head as they kneeled, blindfolded and lined up in a row in the sand.
"The sharia court for the eastern region in Deir al-Zor has sentenced to death these apostate soldiers that committed massacres against our brothers and families in Syria," the executioner said on the video.
Islamist militants with black flags shouted "God is great" as each man was shot. The executioner returned to some victims, firing more bullets into them to make sure they were dead.
Videos of executions and torture have become increasingly common in Syria, where more than 94,000 people have been killed in a conflict now in its third year, according to the British-based Observatory, which has a network of activists in Syria.
Such videos posted online are hard to verify due to government restrictions on access for independent media.
The Nusra video is the second video to be published in the past two days showing executions by fighters who say they are from al Qaeda-linked groups.
A video issued on Wednesday from the northern province of Raqqa, which is controlled by Islamist rebels, showed three blindfolded men sitting on the curb of a central roundabout before being shot in the head with a pistol.
A man speaking in the video said the executions were revenge for killings in the coastal town of Banias two weeks ago. Photos and videos of the alleged Banias massacre showed dozens of mutilated bodies, many of them children, lying in the streets.

War against Boko Haram: Army arrest undercover orange-seller with N600milliom in his account

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major-General Garba Wahab, at the weekend said the media should not eulogize criminals as the Division has arrested a suspected orange seller who spied for terrorists and over N600 million was found in his bank account within three months.
The GOC, whose area of command covers the north-western states, while fielding questions from newsmen in Kaduna relating to why the Army is carrying out general search without discrimination, said, “When we stop those who are hawking and carrying wheelbarrow, and we said we want to check, people will shout, ‘Why are you disturbing the average person?’ And I give you example; we arrested somebody here called mai lemu (orange seller) in Kawo here. And in three months when we checked through his account, over 600 million naira has passed through that man’s account, and he sells orange here by Kawo bridge.
“He is there as a lookout. He is like a spy. He looks around, gets information and feeds these guys, says this is what is happening. That is why I said we are not dealing with idiots. We are dealing with people who have one or two guys working and thinking, and giving them information. And we know that before they attack they must look at the softest locations.”
Wahab added that it is a criminality that the media and society must cooperate and ensure that it is brought to an end.
On Thursday’s attacks in Daura, he explained that military personnel adhered to the principles of rules of engagement, saying, “I called this press conference to fill the gap on the attack that occurred in Daura, Katsina state. We don’t want a situation where people will be speculating. Yes, the criminals came, they bombed vehicles, and they packed money using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to bomb everywhere. Nobody will give an instruction for an innocent life to be lost, so in whatever we do, we keep to the rules of engagement given to us and that is why I have called the media to lend us their support because when a few reports go out, it’s like it is encouraging the criminals and they start to think they have the upper hand.”
Meanwhile, the presidency yesterday offered amnesty to any Boko Haram member who surrenders, as it wages war on the insurgents in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where state of emergency was declared last Tuesday.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Rueben Abati, revealed this yesterday while talking to Reuters, a foreign news agency, on telephone.
He said: “Mr President has urged Boko Haram members to surrender their arms and embrace the amnesty option which is still open as the committee is working on the option of dialogue for a peaceful resolution.”

Principal flees town after impregnating Army officer’s daughter in Kogi

A Principal of one Baptist High School, Ekinrin/Adde, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mr. Ajayi Ajibulu has allegedly impregnated one of his students (undisclosed name) . The secret between the Principal and the young girl was exposed after the principal’s letter via the girl to a doctor who was to carry out an abortion on her was seen by her (the girl) female friend.

Naijaloaded investigation has revealed that the girl is a daughter to a retired Army officer who was also a close friend to the principal. Sources told our reporter that it was because of the closeness that had existed between the principal and the girl’s father that she became regular in the principal’s house, leading to the pregnancy.

It was revealed that the girl was still contemplating carrying out the abortion, which would have been the third of its kind, when her friend stumbled on the letter, and quickly let ‘the cat out of the bag’. After being informed of the development, the father raised the alarm, attracting the youth of the town who dragged the principal to the king’s palace.

Oba Solomon Hambolu, the king, had advised the community to remain calm over the matter, as his palace was capable of dealing with the matter. He cautioned them not to take the law into their hands.

A bird in the know has squealed that the Principal has been having issues with his staff relating to his diabolical practices, even as a church deacon.

Naijaloaded has also gathered that the Principal escaped from the King’s Palace after the youth had delivered him to the king, and may have fled the town already.

Man Arrested For Duping Facebook Girlfriend Of N850, 000

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ondo State have arrested one Arowolo Femi for duping a girl he met on the Facebook of N850,000

Mr. Arowolo was also accused of duping a Reverend Father of his Honda Accord 2007 model with number plate CU 730RSH under the pretext that he would help him sell the car.

A statement by the command’s spokesman, Kayode Balogun, said the suspect was arrested in Akure after the girl he duped came to report him.

Mr. Balogun said in March 2013, the suspect duped one reverend father (name withheld) of his Honda Accord 2007 model by lying to his younger sister that he would marry her. She then introduced him to the reverend and he prayed for them.

The suspect later told the Reverend Father that he was a car dealer to which the Reverend told him he wanted to sell his car. The suspect allegedly collected the car to sell in Lokoja; but ran away with the car in March.

Mr. Balogun said efforts to reach the suspect had been futile until he was arrested in Akure.

He said the suspect was invited to Akure by the girl he met on facebook after they had been friends for a month.

Mr. Balogun said after meeting the girl, he passed the night in her house. During the night, the suspect checked her phone and found out that she had money in her account; he pleaded with her to lend him N850,000 to clear some of his goods at the port in Lagos, the civil defence said.

When it dawned on the girl that the suspect, who came back the second day to collect the money, was about to dupe her she reportedly contacted men of the civil defence who came to invite the suspect for questioning.

The state commandant, Popoola Waheed Bamidele, therefore advised member of the public to avoid dating people they don’t know on social network.

Mr. Bamidele said the rate at which people have been duped on social network recently has been on the increase and charged women to be careful with the use of social network.

The commandant said the car recovered from the suspect will be handed over to the Reverend while the N850, 000 he collected from the woman will be recovered.
Mr. Bamidele added that the suspect would be charged to court accordingly.

Community,Church,Family Fight Over Chinua Achebe’s Body

The Anglican Church has said it will not release the body of the renowned author, Prof. Chinua Achebe, to the Ogidi community, Anambra State for burial.

Similarly, the church and family of the late professor have said that they will not allow his wife, Christy, to go through the traditional widowhood rites that women who lose their husbands in Igboland are made to undergo.
The Archdeacon of Ogidi and Vicar of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Ven. Obi Ubaka, told Saturday PUNCH that the body of Achebe belonged to the church, which shall perform the final rites for the fallen statesman on Thursday, May 23.
The church’s reaction came as Chief S. Okoli, the Regent of Ogidi, Achebe’s hometown, said the late author would be buried at night because he was a titled man.
Okoli had said, “As a titled man, he (Achebe) will be buried towards evening in line with our culture and tradition. His body will lie in state in the yam barn where daughters of the clan shall pay him their last respects before he will be buried in the night.”
But the archdeacon said, “He (Achebe) is going to be buried immediately after the church service at 1 pm in broad daylight. It is not true that he will be buried at night.
“The church won’t hand over the body to the community. Which one has the upper hand; the church or the community? The church has the upper hand in this case. He was a Christian and should be buried in a Christian way,” Ubaka insisted.
Similarly, the Achebe family said the issue of when and how the late author would be buried was not a subject of dispute.
The head of the Umu Ada Achebe (the female members of the family), and niece of the late author, Mrs. Ngozi Ezedum, told Media Nigeria that the story that her uncle would be buried at night according to traditional rites was an unfounded speculation.
“He was from a real Christian family. And in the Achebe family, we do things the Christian way,” Ezedum said.
She said the title that Achebe held did not in any way compromise his religion as a Christian. Achebe’s Ozo title is Ugo Belu N’Orji (Eagle on the Iroko).
Ezedum said Achebe’s wife could feel free to come home without fear that she will be made to undergo traditional widowhood rites.
“I have told my uncle’s wife that I am around, nobody will do anything,” the head of the Umu Ada said.
She, however, said other traditional rites like searching for Achebe and taking care of his body by the women would be performed.
She said the Anglican Church in the Niger Diocese had long abolished the widowhood rites because they were repugnant to good conscience.
Such practices include making the widow to shave her head, drink the water used to bathe her husband’s corpse, sit on the floor and sleep in the same room with the corpse.
“She will not even wear any mourning clothe black or white. The Anglican Church doesn’t want that anymore,” Ezedum said.
Meanwhile, preparations for the burial of the late literary icon are ongoing.
His Ikenga Ogidi country home is a beehive of activities as workers, artisans and builders work round the clock to erect a mausoleum, which would serve as his final resting place and obi, the major reception in his compound.
The compound situated on the Ogidi-Abatete Road was cordoned off and only the people working on the project are allowed in.
The main house is also being given a facelift, while a new coat of paint has been added to the perimeter fence.
The entire Ikenga Ogidi community is also being given a face-lift as the Idemili North Local Government Council has been grading roads leading to the family home of the Achebes and the St. Philip Church, where the funeral service will be conducted.
The church building is also being rehabilitated, with dozens of painters, masons, tile layers, iron benders and electricians working on the new church auditorium, which has been selected to host the burial service.
The Archdeacon of the church, Ven. Obi Ubaka, said the family had provided financial assistance to finish the work on the new church building so that it would be ready to host the event.
“The Primate of the Church of Nigeria will lead the officiating ministers. He will be supported by the Archbishop of the Niger, the Most Rev. Christian Efobi, and the Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo,” Ubaka said.
Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, who was in Ogidi to monitor the level of work on the projects, told Media Nigeria that President Goodluck Jonathan and two other heads of state would be present at the burial.
Oseloka denied claims by some family members that the Anambra State Government had not provided substantial financial support for the burial of the author and playwright.
Though he did not want to go into details, Obaze said, “That is categorically wrong. That impression is wrong. Anybody, who has said that is not being forthright. That is wrong,” he said.

Sergio Ramos: Atletico deserve their win

Sergio Ramos: Atletico deserve their win

Sergio Ramos believes that Atletico Madrid deservedly beat Real Madrid in Friday's Copa del Rey final at the Santiago Bernabeu as they were more clinical in front of goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave Jose Mourinho's men an early lead but Diego Costa restored parity soon after, with Miranda eventually helping Diego Simeone's men to a 2-1 victory in extra-time, with los Blancos striking the woodwork three times.

"We have to say well done to Atleti, they deserve to win the trophy," Ramos told TVE.

"After the goal maybe we relaxed and sat back. We had four or five clear chances; but if you don't take advantage of them you get punished."

The defender then went on to admit that his side have not lived up to expectations this term, having ended up empty-handed.

"This year we've ended up empty-handed. We've lost La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. All we can say to the fans is that this is the reality and that there is next season to look forward to."

Rodgers coy on Carroll's future at Liverpool

Rodgers coy on Carroll's future at LiverpoolThe striker initially struggled for form and fitness on loan at West Ham, frustrating the Irishman, only for the England international to improve as the season wore onLiverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was coy on the future of Andy Carroll, who is currently on loan at West Ham, insisting he will assess his progression at the end of the season.

The striker, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle for £35 million in January 2011, linked up with Sam Allardyce's side last summer after being told he would be behind lone frontman Luis Suarez in the pecking order at Anfield.

Carroll initially struggled at Upton Park, not scoring his first goal until November, but has since notched six in his last 12 outings - although Rodgers admits the loan spell has not gone as well as first hoped.

"In terms of Andy, it has been good to see the bit of form he has shown now towards the end of the season," Rodgers told reporters. "He has obviously had a difficult season as a whole because of injury, so it's been a little bit frustrating.

"I suppose it's similar to last season, he showed that bit of form here at the end of last season and he's obviously shown that again at West Ham.

"The idea for Andy to go out [on loan] was to get games; he wanted to play, he didn't want to be sat here playing second fiddle to anyone and I commend that because some players are happy to maybe sit on the bench and not play.

"But he wanted to go out and play football. He's gone to West Ham, which is a great club, and under Sam Allardyce he's done very well. So we'll assess that at the end of the season and take it from there."

West Ham have expressed an interest in recruiting Carroll permanently, but the 24-year-old will snub a move to the Hammers this summer as he wants to stay and fight for his future onMerseyside.
